Crossfit South Surrey is a recreation and rehabilitation facility. Some of our members like competing in beginner competitions for fun, such as CAN WEST and FESTIVUS and we are their greatest fans. We are involved in the opens and run a friendly completion during the summer.

If competing on a larger scale is important to our member we encourage the member to seek out another Crossfit Facility that excels in this area and will take them to the next level!

Evaluating faulty movement patterns, working with limitations and designing a safe strength training program that results in an athlete’s success is our focus, not competing on a larger scale.

I walked through most of my life without confidence and very low self esteem. People shared their passions, enthusiasm and accomplishments with me and I always felt like there wasn’t much in my life that I could share. I have a wonderful family, loving and supporting husband, beautiful and smart kids and the most wonderful mom in the world! Life is good! There are challenges and surprises, but who doesn’t have them?

A few years ago, after having my baby, I started having some health issues. I wasn’t happy with my weight and the way I looked. I was feeling depressed. I decided to change my lifestyle. I started eating well and working out regularly. Often, I felt people and family looking at me with disapproval. I heard comments that I ate unhealthily and I was too skinny. I was just growing stronger and healthier. Going to the gym was my time to destress and to do something for myself. It was keeping me sane on those days when things seemed impossible, overwhelming and out of control. I just wanted to push harder and be stronger. For me!

My first serious trainer, a friend, was Carolyn. I was training 3-4 times a week. Crossfit became a big part of my life. Still is and always will be. With great knowledge and experience, positive attitude and friendly advice, Carolyn helped me build my strength, changed my body shape and kept me motivated. As a 46 year woman I can proudly say that I am strong!

My passion for fitness did not end in the gym. For the first time in my life I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do something completely out of the ordinary. I decided to enter a bodybuilding competition. This meant 12 weeks of prep and pushing hard…

The daily life, routines and responsibilities never stopped during those twelve weeks. I just needed to add my daily cardio, often at 5:30 am and 6 days a week workouts on top of that!! I found eating challenging as I had to have six fixed meals every day. My poor family had to often eat what I made for myself.

Coming to the end I was emotional and moody. I had doubts and l was often questioning myself if it was worth putting myself and my family through so much of a challenge. On those days when I was ready to quit, all I could think of was that it doesn’t matter if I win or not. If I took myself that far, I’m already a winner on the inside. If I win, that’s just a bonus! I used those words backstage many times when I was standing next to all those young, beautiful and scared girls. I am a winner. Firstly and most importantly on the inside. I did it!

Being 46, I have a beautiful reward for all my hard work. And I love it. I didn’t expect that I would take anything home that night, but I took second place. What a great reward for all my hard work.

Thank you Carolyn for being a part of my journey. I could have not done it without you by my side.Today, I’m four weeks out and training for a BC Cup. I’m happy to have Carolyn coaching, training and helping me achieve my goals.

Thank you Carolyn. And thank you for letting me share my story with you.
